I’ve been watching a lot of construction in the Dayton/Cincinnati region over the past decade. Highways are tore up, re-plotted and laid back down with amazing efficiency. Overpasses are built with hardly a disruption in the traffic flow. Nicely done ODOT.
The amount of concrete used for the parapet walls deserves to be protected with a seamless, breathable system and Belzona has a couple of options for long term protection of the still curing concrete. The substrate has to be able to “breathe” in order to allow the concrete to continue to cure. If we seal the substrate then we’ll only be left with cracking and delaminating coatings.
How can we get the most life out of these multi-million (sometimes billion) dollar projects? I hear rumblings (through Bill Wilson at Roads & Bridges Magazine) that a couple of members of Congress recently filed a bill that would gradually eliminate the federal funding of transportation projects by lowering the 18.4-cents-per-gallon federal gas tax to 3.7 cents in five years. The Transportation Empowerment Act (TEA). This would put the weight of road and bridge repairs on the States.
We have two great products to maximize the length of service these concrete parapet walls will be able to provide. Belzona Clear Cladding is a clear repellent treatment designed to prevent water penetration into the concrete fabric and Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane) provides impermeability to liquids but permeability to water vapor – allowing the substrate to breathe. Both products are easily sprayed.
We thank you for your continued support spanning decades. Please let us know how we can help you repair, protect and improve your capital projects.
